EVERYBODY IS on a race to shed weight. Celebrity favourite nutritionist Pooja Makhija reveals her funda — a holistic and sustainable approach to an attractive lifestyle — in her book Eat.Delete. The diva-dietician launched her book on Tuesday evening at Landmark, Vasant Kunj and was accompanied by 2012 Miss Asia-Pacific Himangini Singh Yadu and actor Sushmita Sen, who gushed about Makhija’s magical method. “It’s a privilege for me to have written the after-word for this book because you rarely come across someone who is that good, that specialised at what they do,” said Sushmita Sen.

Makhija says that the two most important things to make this healthy lifestyle choice are individual choice, and discipline of the mind. “You need to want to do it for yourself — not because your mother or boyfriend wants it. Wrong reasons. You want to look like that. The day you want to do it for yourself, read this book,” Sen added.

Makhija proposes a system of moderation. The idea isn’t to starve or ignore cravings, but to balance them. “I was so surprised when she, a dietician, told me I’d have to eat a lot. Pooja’s philosophy is to eat everything, but to condition your body and mind for moderation,” explained Yadu.

Sen explained how the Makhija-diet changed her physically as well as mentally. My skin improved, my health improved, and I realised, that my Mind improved. I was thinking straight, my mood-swings were better — my entire temperament changed.”

“Everyone is different. You have to acknowledge that difference in your dietary habits. What is most important is to calculate what your needs are. Depending on various factors — height, age, level of physical activity et cetera, we find out what is your equation to eat, to delete, and that is exactly what the book teaches you,” said Makhija on her method. ‘Eat to delete’ typifies her formula of finding a ‘balance between what you eat and what you burn’.

In an age of increasing eating disorders, Pooja Makhija’s book recommends an all over change in eating choices rather than taking short-lived short-cuts.
