DELHI IS all set to usher in an era of planned development as the term ‘unauthorised’, that more than 1,200 colonies are tagged with, would permanently be abolished on regularisation of unauthorised colonies, which the residents have been waiting for the last 3-4 decades.

Delhi urban development minister AK Walia on Tuesday said that the sustained efforts of Urban Development Department have yielded positive results.

“This would go a long way in bringing a sea-change in the status of the residents settled in unauthorised colonies,” said Walia, adding that 624 unauthorised colonies have been cleared by the ASI, Forest Department, DDA, Revenue Department and MCD, apart from a final report submitted by the Divisional Commissioner office.

Of the 624 colonies, 202 are on private land and rest are on government land.

“The Urban Development (UD) Department has taken an all-important decision to finally grant recognition to these colonies. The decision has been approved by the concerned department, its minister and endorsed by the Chief Minister,” said Walia.

He said that he is confident that Lt governor would soon bring a proposal to this effect.

“The ownership under power of attorney would also be converted formally through registered sale deeds. The owners would also become entitled for loans against their registered properties,” he informed.

In 2008, 1,639 colonies had applied for regularisation. Of which 1,218 colonies were issued Provisional Regularisation Certificates. Since then, the city government has been striving hard to get all obstacles coming in the way of formal regularisation process.

The UD Department has been reviewing the status on weekly basis. Walia stated that every step is being taken as per prescribed procedure and nothing is being left on chance. Further, the department is taking all precautions to ensure that there is no fault, which could create problem at any stage resulting in any difficulty.

He added that the local bodies would be directed to take up works relating to civic amenities on war-footing in such colonies upon their regularisation.
