HCL launches two new tablets; starts at Rs 7,999

IN A bid to increase its current market share of 15 per cent in tablet segment, HCL Infosystems, unveiled two tablet computers — HCL ME U1 and HCL MyEdu Tab on Monday.
While HCL ME U1 has been introduced with a price of Rs 7,999, the HCL MyEdu Tab — K12 Version is priced at Rs 11,499.
“The tablet market in India is growing at a rapid pace and the device is fast enriching consumer’s lives by finding unique usages from a learning companion to a productivity enhancer. Along with the growing tablet market we are witnessed 100 per cent growth year on year basis,” said Gautam Advani, EVP and head, mobility, HCL Infosystems.
MyEdu tablets will feature NCERT content, quizzes, solved examples, problem solver, educational applications and other curated interactive content for students.
The U1 tablet is powered with the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich Operating Software (OS). HCL claims that the tablet is equipped with 17 local ready to use applications. It has a 7 inch 800X480 pixel screen and a 1Ghz processor.
“We have plans to export these tabs to middle east countries by June this year,” informed Advani. He said that currently all manufacturing is taking place in China.
The tablet has a front camera and 512 MB RAM, with an internal memory of 4GB expandable to 32GB. HCL ME U1 also has a full USB, mini USB and a Micro SD card slot.
The U1 also provides for Wi-fi connectivity.
On the other hand, the MyEduTab tablet is meant to cater to the needs of learners across schools and higher education institutions.
