'Creation of conditions where survival becomes difficult also amounts to genocide'

'I do not agree with the categorization that there is a ‘civil war’ in Chattisgarh. Firstly, there’s a large amount of structure violence in the situation in that state. The structural violence is also from the point of view of nutritional status of people which according to government statistics is 37 percent of the total population of adult Indian population has a body mass index below 18.5 which means chronic under-nutrition.'

Binayak Sen in this interview given to TEHELKA on 9 May at draws our attention to the potent connection between hunger and deadly infections like Tuberculosis, Malaria that affect the poorest of the poor in India. 'Creation of conditions where survival becomes difficult for millions of people also amounts to genocide,' says Dr. Binayak Sen.
