New Delhi: Troubled by routine criticism of the country's lax environment laws, India has compiled a two-volume document that New Delhi hopes will help experts understand efforts made to solve contentious issues related to environment and pollution.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), a wing of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, has compiled the compendium of around 133 research papers contributed by more than 300 authors from research and development (R&D) institutions, corporate captains, state pollution control boards and various universities, the first such assignment undertaken by the board. Titled, Studies on pollution mitigation, the books were released by eminent scientist G Madhavan Nair and CPCB chairman SP Gautam at a function in the Indian Capital.
"Concerned agencies can take valuable inputs from the papers that highlight problems and offer remedies as well," Mr Gautam said.
The research papers were earlier presented and vetted by the 97th session of Indian Science Congress held in Thiruvananthapuram in January this year. Nair, a professor at Thiruvananthapuram-based Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said new data on contentious issues of pollution and environment would help those monitoring the same. "Such data is being increasingly used by experts. These compendium will help them augment their work,” Nair said. |
