After a degree in
computer science from IIT Roorkee in 1999, and about about five years
of work experience, Amit Agarwal wanted to showcase his work and become
more independent. Rather than get a website made, Agarwal went for what
was by then a fairly obvious choice: a blog.
After a year of
such blogging he realised how blogging itself could be a project for
him: there was an international audience out there eager to know solutions,
news and updates about technology in a simple blog format. That’s
how Digital Inspiration (labnol.blogspot.com) was born. Agarwal can’t
disclose how much he makes of the ads on his blog, but admits that not
only does he make a living off it, but a very comfortable living.
Agarwal is one
of India’s biggest blogebrities, and perhaps the only one who
lives off blogging does not live in a metro — he lives in Agra.
Agarwal’s
top three tips for anyone who wants to make money off blog advertising
platforms: choose your niche, go for a specific area that you know about;
be consistent. Your readers expect to see something new on your blog
every day; respect your audience, reply to their comments. Never forget
that the more traffic you get, the more money you make.
